subject: Small Wind Power [print this page]

When you are talking about how to get the most out of small wind power, you are really talking about a minor revolution in the way we make power for our homes. In the past, we have been tied to the large power generation facilities that have dominated power creation for the majority of this century.

For years our power was generated in central plants with enormous economies of a super-large scale driving actual cost reductions. Those days are pretty much gone and the prices have been headed in the other direction for some time now.

The problem of course is the shrinking supplies of fossil fuels around the world. These resources are of a finite quantity and there is nothing we can do about the fact that these resources are going away. This will continue to drive prices higher.

There are several big pluses for small wind power over the way we do things now...

The power you get doesn't cost anything after you pay for the unit - This is a very powerful aspect of making your own power at home. The fact that you have paid for the initial investment in the device means that as time goes on, you will not of course have to buy the device again in order to get additional power. So, once you pay for the wind turbine kit all you have to pay for from then on is some minor maintenance costs and possibly replacement of rotor blades.

It is simple to grasp the concept of small wind when compared with the other options - This is a very nice aspect of wind energy in general. It is very conceptually simple and much easier to get a hold of intellectually than the concepts of solar energy or geothermal power. Therefore, the average handyman has a realistic shot of making the wind power device himself or herself. With wind technology you do not necessarily have to have a professional involved.

You are taking control back from the mega companies that sell you power now - Many times these days we feel like large corporations are driving our destinies. We would rather have more control over our lives and all aspects of our energy future. By taking on wind energy at home you are taking a giant step forward in this direction.

By and large, small wind power is the best way to make power for your home if you are going to go the renewable route. It is the simplest and cheapest by far and will give you the most control over your energy future.
