subject: Why You Need A Data Centre For Your Business [print this page]

With today's technology, in order for a business to compete in the marketplace, they have to be technologically advanced. One area that every business has to stay on top of is their computer systems and the storage of their information. In order to properly maintain this information, a data centre is necessary.

Most businesses larger businesses and many small businesses have their own data centre on site. This is a dedicated room where networking equipment as well as storage devices is stored. There are many different ways that a company can store their back up information; one very common method is using tape to back up each system. The reason that tapes are so popular is that they are pretty inexpensive and they are separate from the system; which means that they aren't affected by power outages, viruses, hacking, etc.

Another method that companies use to store their data is via secondary hard drives. This is a popular method as well and each computer can have its own secondary back up hard drive as well as being a hard drive in the data centre that backs up the entire network. Smaller companies may simply choose to back up their data on CD ROMs rather than other methods; however, over time this can actually get quite expensive.

For businesses that don't have the necessary space to dedicate for a data centre, there is always the option of paying a company to provide a remote data system. Both large and small companies use this method because it allows them no only to store their data without having to worry about storage issues (while still giving them the ability to access their information whenever they want to) but many remote companies also provide networking solutions for a company, which allows companies without a lot of overhead to network in a professional way and have an IT team keeping their network secure at the same time.

Having a way to protect and store your data is important. There are many options available to you and none of them are free. You can purchase your own equipment to create your own data centre, which requires a lot of overhead, or you can hire a company to take care of your information for you, which requires a long-term financial commitment. In either case, you need to have one of these two options, you just need to determine which one is right for you.
