10 Effective Cures For Insomnia
Cures for insomnia are the answer for people who are tired of sleepless nights
. Prolonged periods of insomnia can take its toll on a person. Put into practice these cures for insomnia and get rid of those nights lying in bed unable to sleep or middle of the night awakening. Do these cures for insomnia religiously so that they may develop into habits that will make any person get a good night's sleep.
1. Make sure the bedroom is conducive to sleeping.
This includes the mattress and beddings, they should be comfortable. Observe if the room is too cold, hot, bright or noisy and make proper adjustments.
2. Associate the bed with sleep and sex.
Stop using your laptop in bed. Working or studying in bed. Associating the bed with only sleep and sex signals your body that it is time to rest once you are in bed.
3. Exercise regularly.
Exercising regularly ensures that your body is tired at night. Do not, however, exercise 4 hours before sleeping. This may cause further sleeplessness.
4. Stop napping during the day.
Afternoons make some people feel sleepy and that is normal. If you, however, can't fall asleep at night, stop taking naps during the day.
5. Set up a fixed time for sleeping and waking up.
Setting up a fixed time trains your body. Eventually, you will automatically sleep and wake at certain times.
6. Develop sleep rituals.
Sleep rituals may include listening to music or reading something light. You can also choose to have a warm bath or shower before sleeping.
7. Don't check or watch the clock while in bed.
This is a big no! Most people who have trouble sleeping constantly check the time. This creates more anxiety. Worrying about your insomnia or being late the next day can only make it worse.
8. Don't do activities that may over-stimulate before bedtime.
These activities include watching TV, surfing the net, checking you email and social networking sites. These activities may over-stimulate your brain. Studies have been made regarding the relationship between light and sleep. Some people are more sensitive than others and even small exposures to light can set back their sleep time. You just might surprised that this is among the most effective cures for insomnia.
9. Don't take anything with caffeine, nicotine and alcohol before sleeping.
Both caffeine and nicotine are stimulants and can keep you awake longer than you would want to be. Alcohol, although it does have a sleep inducing effect, can cause middle of the night awakenings.
10. Eat something light instead of eating a heavy meal before sleeping.
If you are accustomed to taking snacks before sleeping. Consider warm milk and honey, this promotes sleep. Eating something heavy will only crank up your digestive system and make it even harder to fall asleep.
These are the 10 cures for insomnia. Most of which may take time getting used to. If you happen to be doing the opposite of some "don't do activities" above then that might be what's causing your insomnia in the first place. As much as possible, try to avoid the things that can prevent you from having restful sleep.
