11 Things Your Project Management Resume Should Show In 2011

If youre looking for a new project managers job in 2011

, here are a few suggestions to give your resume the edge.

1. Create A Career Achievements Section

Make sure your resume features a section where you summarize all the highlights from your career. Place this section on the first page for maximum impact.

2. Use Big Numbers

Use big numbers when describing your projects; make your previous work sound as impressive as possible. If you havent worked on any projects that are really big, think about how much money your project made or saved your company.

3. Project experience in a range of industries

Try and show that you have worked on projects from a wide range of industries. If you have only run projects inside one company, what individual areas did you cover, marketing? Manufacturing? IT?

4. Make Sure Your certifications are showing!

Make sure you put any certifications on the first page, these are very important. If you dont have any, why not start one! This way you can legitimately put one on your resume, you dont need to lie just make a note mentioning the certification is in progress.

5. Use Power words

Make sure you use project management power words like time, scope, budget, quality and risk.

6. Scannable first page

Your first page must be scannable in 10 seconds or less, use font size (not different types) and bold to draw the readers attention.

7. Clarity

Dont babble, get to the point, every sentence should be clear and concise, no waffle. I successfully ran project XYZ generating 100k in additional sales for CompanyX

8. Dont include social media links unless they are strictly work related

Dont link your resume to sites like MySpace or Facebook where recruiters could see pictures of you drunk at the pub.

9. Update your Linkedin site

Dont let your Linkedin site go stale. Employers often look at your linkedin site (if you have one) to verify the jobs listed in your resume

10. Dont list your referees

You dont need to list referees in your resume. This is mostly redundant for a resume. If the potential employer is interested in referees they will ask you.

11. Use a specially designed project managers resume

Standard templates look exactly that, standard. Dress your resume up with a splash of color, specific formatting, sections and easy to read fonts.
