? You have taken a wonderful decision. Patent lawyers or attorneys are in great demand now. This is a hugely respected profession, and the pay is good as well. Individuals and corporations can then use a portion of the funds to develop their inventions or come up with new ones.
Of course, before you can practice, you will need professional certification. For this, you will have to join a patent law program and clear the examination at the end of this program. But remember, you must be careful when you are selecting a program. You should know that not all programs that are available today are really that good. Patent Law Programs - The Joining Criteria
*But remember, you cannot just walk into an academy and join up just like that. Most programs have a qualification criterion. For example, you must get your college degree before you can join. But that's not all. Do ensure that your college degree is in one of the following subjects - engineering, natural sciences like biochemistry or chemistry, and physics. In other words, you should have specialized in any one of those. As a patent attorney, you will need to have a good understanding of science.
*There's something more. Once you have that college degree, you should join a law school and finish the program there. On completion, you are required to clear your bar examination. You are eligible to join a patent law program once you have cleared this bar exam and have the license to practice as a lawyer.

A lot of different subjects will be covered in good patent law programs. Some of them are copyright law, intellectual property, patent policy and law, unfair competition and trademark law, bioethics, antitrust, genetics, the laws of international trade, drafting a patent claim, among others.
