In order to really succeed in a college/university education, students need to learn to maximize all their resources. Most colleges and universities offer/provide a number of tools that a student can use to get the most out of every single dollar invested in the college education.

College education is hard and expensive. And for it to be meaningful and worthwhile the student needs to take control of his/her own learning. Here are a few things (tip of the iceberg) that can help every student now in getting the most out of their college education.

1. Learn how to study. I have a professor who always tells me and all her students, that READING is NOT Learning. Every college student, especially the sciences, have to learn how to study...effectively. A student cannot just study materials for the sake of good grades. Cultivate the study habit that ensures understanding the material and being able to apply. Do not wait till graduate or masters programs in order to start learning comprehensively. You will easily get overwhelmed with the work load. This is a whole new topic by itself.

2. Leverage free programs/events. Most university and college institutions have tons of free programs, events, and campaigns, that can benefit a majority of students. Colleges won't spend money on an activity if the activity doesn't target a large amount of the student body. There are sometimes honors societies, study groups, volunteer groups, etc that can help students develop quality skills that are resume worthy and could really set a student apart from the masses. You cannot go through college as you did through high school, just waking up and attending classes. In college you have to keep your eyes and minds open to various opportunities and societies that provide valuable information.

There are many more things that students can do to maximize learning and get the most out of the college experience.
