20% Of Bmw Worldwide Sales Are The 3 Series
The BMW 3 Series has been a cornerstone of the German manufacturers global success
in recent years it has accounted for about 20 percent of its worldwide sales.
So the fact that details about the new generation of 3 Series have begun to emerge is significant news. The basics are more or less what you would expect the new car will be larger and roomier, and yet lighter, quicker and easier on the fuel (and therefore wallet).
There are also benefits for the environment. By March 2012, BMW aims to have eight versions of the 3 Series producing CO2 emissions figures at or below 120g/km which could also have added financial benefits from the point of view of Vehicle Excise Duty and the like. Rumours state that the new 3 series could benefit from nil road tax.
The Drive Performance Control feature will come as standard, meaning that drivers can flip between the EfficientDynamics system to a racier configuration should the situation (or impulses) demand.
All engines in the range will feature BMWs TwinPower Turbo technology including the new 245 bhp four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol unit, which takes the place of the old six-cylinder 3.0 litre. The new engine promises advantages in terms of weight and fuel consumption, while also delivering a quicker trip from 0-62mph (in manual form).
Since 1975 there have been five generations of the 3 series BMW. The first 3 series was the E21 which was in production between 1975 and 1983. The E30 was in production between 1983 and 1991, quickly followed by the E36 which was in production between 1991 and 2000. The final two versions were the E46 which was in production between 1998 and 2005 and the current 3 series is the E93 saloon.
Later in the year, the 3 Series will also get four-wheel-drive and hybrid powertrains, neither of which have been featured on UK models in the past. Prices and full specifications are still to be announced, but a visit to a specialist dealer such as
BMW dealer Aberdeen will ensure that you are kept in the loop. If your local BMW does not have any information on the next version of the 3 Series, Contact Audi UK where I am sure they will be able to help you!
