2010 Live Events - Riverdance, Stomp, The Color Purple, Cats, And More
The first decade of the 2000's is coming to a close and another is about to begin
. With everyone still facing the after effects of the world financial crisis that has been going on for the past year or so, people are being more conscious of their spending habits and are trying to save money wherever they can. And that includes looking for deals on their entertainment as well. Some people have chosen to buy less DVD's and instead are renting them more often to save money. Others have chosen to pick and choose which sporting events they want to watch the most, rather than buying expensive season passes.
For those enjoy stage performing arts, like theatrical productions, or other live events, there will be a wealth of performances to enjoy coming up in 2010. The theatrical Irish step dancing production, Riverdance, which is currently conducting its farewell tour before coming to an end in 2010, will be one to watch for. Riverdance has been around for fifteen years, with its first show being performed in Dublin, Ireland back in 1994. It received a standing ovation at the end and has been a hit ever since. In that same vein, but an entirely different performance altogether, is Stomp.
Stomp is a dance troupe that originated in the UK in the early 90's. However, it is not a traditional dance group that people might typically think of. Stomp uses everyday objects, like brooms, to create a rhythm based dance performance. Other theater productions include The Color Purple, a musical based on the novel by Alice Walker. CATS is another musical production which features music composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is based on a book called Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, a collection of poems by T.S. Eliot.
For music fans, a British guitarist named Mark Knopfler, who is also a singer, songwriter, and film score composer, will be touring in North America and Europe in 2010. One of the more popular musicals in recent years, Chicago, which was the inspiration for the 2002 film of the same name, can also be found playing in 2010. For a family friendly outing, try 101 Dalmatians, a musical based on the same book that spawned the classic Disney movie. Another musical to check out is In the Heights, which takes place over 3 days, showing the lives of characters in the NYC neighborhood Washington Heights. And finally, for a comedic spoof on horror films, take a look at Young Frankenstein, a musical based on Mel Brooks film of the same name.
