The 2011 1-Series convertible from BMW is a nimble sports car that lets in the sun. The rear-wheel-drive drop-top comes in three variations with two drive train choices. The 128i and 128i SULEV versions share the same smooth revving six-cylinder engine that puts out 230 horsepower. The 135i comes with a more powerful, turbocharged six-cylinder engine and additional performance improvements.

All three trim levels of the 1-Series class of BMWs come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. The 128i and 128i SULEV cars have an option for a six-speed automatic, and the 135i can be ordered with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Common to all trim levels of the 1-Series convertible are an AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio with auxiliary input, light weight alloy wheels, no-cost leather seats, fold-down rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and 8-way adjustable front seats. And naturally, BMW offers many additional options.
The 128i Convertible is powered by BMW's 3.0-liter, 230 horsepower inline six-cylinder engine generating 200 pound-feet of torque.
Like its fixed-roof stablemate, the 128i Convertible features Valvetronic valvetrain management and aluminum/magnesium cylinder block construction-core elements of BMW's EfficientDynamics.
The 135i Convertible, features BMW's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque from as low as 1,400 rpm.
With its direct piezo gasoline injectors, twin low-mass turbochargers and air-to-air intercooling, the 135i Coupe accelerates to 62 mph in 5.3 seconds. while the Convertible takes 5.6 seconds. Both engines feature on-demand engine coolant pumps that improve fuel economy and reduce parasitic losses for increased output.
