3 Best Chicago Neighborhoods

There are so many great areas to live in Chicago that it can be hard to choose which location is optimal

. Factors including job location, accessibility and transportation options are all things that need to be taken into consideration before signing that lease.

Heres a look at some of the best locations to live around Chicago. Even though Ive listed only four out of the 77 community areas of Chicago, perhaps this will help guide you on your apartment-buying journey.

Lincoln Park. Bordered on the north by Diversey Parkway, on the south by North Avenue, on the west by the Chicago River and on the south by North Avenue, the city is named after the large park that borders Lake Michigan. Various neighborhoods make up the community area of Lincoln Park, including Mid-North, Old Town Triangle, Lincoln Center, Sheffield, Ranch Triangle and West DePaul. Youll find lots of upscale restaurants, retailers and coffee shops in the area, as well as a good selection of bars and clubs, especially along Lincoln Avenue between Wrightwood and Webster. One of the most expensive communities to hang your hat, the average single family house is priced right around 1 million dollars.

Old Town. Part of Chicagos 43rd ward, Old Town includes The Old Town Triangle District, a historic district bound by Clark Street, North Avenue and the former Ogden Avenue right-of-way. The neighborhood is home to older Victorian-era buildings and was the residence of the first Puerto Ricans to immigrate to Chicago back in the 1950s. After undergoing a racial division in the 70s and 80s, what was left were segregated areas between Old Town north of North Avenue and Old Town south of North Avenue. Gentrification is slowly changing the area as the demolition of nearby housing projects to the south continues.

Buena Park. One of the most notable characteristics of Buena Park is the Hutchinson Historic District. Tree-lined blocks make up the District, which showcase perhaps one of the best collections of Prairie-style mansions in the city. In sharp contrast, the surrounding area is made up of skyscrapers and can be accessed from the Sheridan stop on CTAs Red Line. Buena Park is part of Chicagos Uptown neighborhood, which borders Lake Michigan and the community areas of Edgewater, Lincoln Square and Lake View.
