When we think of teenage drug treatment we usually think of a bunch of people sitting
around in a circle, smoking cigarettes, and spilling out their soul all over the floor. It does not seem like something a teenager would be willing to go to or feel free to share in. It defiantly doesn't sound like a teen drug treatment that would actually work.
But truth be told there are a lot of teen drug treatment's that work. And I want to talk about a couple of them.
One treatment you could use is actually a 12 step or Celebrate recovery program that is designed for teenagers. All you have to do is look at each one of the websights for both of these programs to find a meeting space located near you. They actually have these programs designed for teenagers and they actaully work very well. I would also say it would be helpful for yourself to find a co-dependent group for mom's or dad's. It is always good to get around people that might be going through some of the same things as you. You actually learn by hearing what other parents have done to address issues you might be facing.
Another teen drug treatment that might work would be for you to engage in the home. In order for your teen to get the help they need they will need to see more of you. Now your teen won't like this at first but I know unless you engage in the process of breaking the addiction they probably will not succeed. They will fail unless you are there for accountability and watching the actions of your teen. If you want to see your teen actually break the addiction they have you will need to be involved. Think of it this way. Whatever you are doing now...do 25% more.
Another teen drug treatment that works is what I will refer too as removal. The one thing I am learning more and more of is that unless you remove your teenager from the environment they are in you teens chances of succeeding is going to decrease dramatically. I'm not saying that you sell your house and move...unless all your neighbors are selling drugs...and plus if you are doing the step above you should be able to control your own homes environment.
However, I am saying that it would be wise to call parents of friends to put everyone on notice. I would suggest finding a drug free school and have your teenager move schools. I would even suggest you find out where the local hang outs are in case your teenager decides not to come home one night.
The last thing to remember is that your teen will fail and stutter along the way. You have to know that your teen will have set backs at the beginning. They will use again and find themselves tempted and give into that temptation. But if you find a recovery group, take control of your home, and work through the removal process, you might be able to create a teen drug treatment that will work!
