3 Gold Coast International Sporting Events

The Gold Coast in Queensland (QLD) is one of Australia's major tourism drawcards

for attracting visitors, locally and from around the world to our shores. With plenty to offer the world traveller, including beautiful scenery, amazing year round weather, friendly people, laid back lifestyle and a party atmosphere that would even keep Paris Hilton busy.

But there is another side to the Gold Coast and how we attract visitors, events. The area is home to some major international sporting events. Below are 3 major international events that are held on the Gold Coast:

Gold Coast Airport Marathon - Held on the first weekend in July, the event provides participants fantastic views of beaches. Starting from Southport you will make your way south via roads that site beachside down to Burleigh Heads where you will turn around and head North to Runnerway Bay via the same route before turning south again back to Southport. In all a total of 42.2 kilometres will be covered by some of the world's best marathon runners.

ANZ Ladies Masters - Originally The Australian Ladies Masters, it was introduced to the golfing industry in 1990 and the event was at the Palm Meadows Resort. The ANZ Ladies Masters attracts the best lady golfers from around the world, including Jane Geddes, Nikki Cambell, Laura Davies and Australia's own and multiple winner of the event, Karrie Webb. The ANZ Ladies Masters plays a key role in the profile of women's golf in Australia and worldwide.

Gold Coast 600 - Formally an Indy Car event, the Gold Coast 600 is now a V8 endurance race, the third in the Supercar Championship Series. However this event has an international twist, each V8 Supercar team needs to include an international driver that must complete 1/3 of the race distance over the weekend of racing (Saturday & Sunday). The international drivers include, such big names as, Sebastien Bourdais (Champ Car World Series) and Jacques Villeneuve (Formula One World Champion).
