3 Reasons Why the Insanity Workout Program Beats P90X
Most of you have probably seen the infomercials on TV for both P90X by fitness guru Tony Horton as well as Beachbody's new DVD Program called Insanity by fitness expert Shaun Thompson. These are two of Beachbody's most popular programs and both are great programs. But what I want to share with you in this review is---if you are only going to do one program---why Insanity beats P90X hands down.
Let's face the facts---the #1 reason why most people embark on any of the Fitness DVD Programs is to lose weight. They also want to build muscle but that goal usually comes after the goal to lose weight. The approach that P90X takes is the path of strength training---it focuses on push-ups, pull-ups, and weight training either using dumbbells or resistance bands. The cardio in P90X, however, is not as intense (especially compared to all of the cardio in the Insanity Workout Program) and therefore not as effective in our main goal of losing weight.
Granted, they do have the Plyo X, Kenpo X, and Cardio X options, but as your body adjusts to the workouts (especially near the end of the 90 day program) the cardio doesn't really feel as intense as it needs to be to push your body and fitness level. And remember, our whole main goal is to lose weight and cardio is one of the main ways to achieve that result quickly, and I feel that the Insanity Workout Program does this much more effectively.
What the Insanity Workout Program gives you is an intense, all cardio 10 warm-up in the beginning, followed by stretching, and then for the month consists of a good first round of intense cardio/lower body circuit. The second circuit then hits the upper body with some body-weight resistance (through a variety of different push-ups, V push-ups, etc).
The great thing about the Insanity Workout Program is you don't need any of the resistance bands, pull bars, push-ups stands, chairs, etc. It's just you, the DVD, and a small space in your living room to workout in.
Since the Insanity Workout Program is only a 60 day program you are going to see results a lot quicker than with P90X. With most programs typically the biggest transformations are seen during the last month. With Insanity you will see them the second 60 days after your recovery week compared to last month in P90X, at which time you would already be finished with the Insanity Workout Program and ready for round 2!
Speaking from my own experience I have done both programs and did see results from both. However, my biggest weight loss/muscle building transformation was during my 60 days of the Insanity Workout Program. This was mostly because of two reasons---first, the program is shorter and easier to stay committed to, and two, the nutrition guide is much easier to follow. The meals are easy to make, all laid out for you, you don't have to do a lot of extra shopping for weird ingredients. Overall, it's much easier to follow.
