Worn Brake Pads

The most common issue that people will have with their brakes is the fact that their brake pads are worn down. Worn down brake pads are not going to be able to function as well as regular brake pads. While they will still slow down your vehicle, they may not be able to do so as quickly as normal. They may also cause burning and balding, completely ruining the tires that you have on your vehicle. You need to have your brake pads checked on a somewhat regular basis.

Most people fail to realize that they can actually change their own brake pads. The pads can be purchased at a local or national chain car parts store. As long as you have a car jack, you can change the brake pads on your vehicle.

Worn Tires

If you fail to focus in on your brakes you may wind up having to replace both your brakes and your tires. Bad brakes and worn brake pads can actually wear down your tires. While normal wear and tear is expected, the process is accelerated when poor brakes or worn brake pads are used. If you want to get a longer life out of your tires you need to make sure your brakes are in proper working order.

Brake Fluid

Brake fluid is often overlooked by those who are looking into having their car fixed or having their vehicles maintained. Different car companies recommend different intervals for a brake fluid flush. While some look for you to flush the fluid at 25,000 miles, others will tell you to go anywhere from 30,000 to 50,000 before having it done. Look in your owners manual to understand the recommendation for having your brake fluid flushed.

You need to make sure that your brakes are working properly and that they are in proper form, even if they are acting as they should. You want to make sure that you have maximum braking power, and that your brakes are going to be able to work as you need them to. Take the time to have them checked out as you get your oil changed or as you get your vehicle tuned up. The time and money you spend on your brakes will help to ensure the safety of your vehicle.
