It's not cool to be someone who doesn't let the woman talk or be one of those guys who is so eager to come across as being impressive that you don't give her a chance to try and impress you. Sharing the joke means that both of you are showing off your sense of humor and it gives off the impression of having an implied bond which is very good if you want to be close to her.

No matter what, if you want to do well with women, then it is wise to build up your ability to flirt well with a female. You can't expect a woman to want to date you if she doesn't feel the attraction that happens when two people meet and instantly start flirting back and forth with one another.
