3 Tips For Using Your Snorkel

When using a snorkel, it is important that you follow these tips: test for the fitting

, learn ways to clear water out, and know how to snorkel without diving gear.

Diving and snorkeling are cool ways to explore the amazing life under water. Snorkeling allows us to better appreciate the wonders of marine life while swimming, and exploring things that are found under the sea. A snorkel is a handy item that allows you to breathe underwater. Learn the ways to use one by the following guidelines:

Test the fitting of the snorkel

The first step is to test the mask together with the snorkel to see if they fit you and that you are comfortable wearing them underwater. You need to position the rubber strap that connects the snorkel to the mask in such a way that the snorkel fits just above your left ear.

Clearing water out of the snorkel

The next step is to take a deep breath while biting onto the mouthpiece, and then submerge yourself in the water. Next, you do what's called purging, which is when you exhale deeply to expel out any water that is present in the snorkel shaft. Gradually and carefully inhale so you can repeat the process until you remove any residual water. You will purge every time water enters the shaft. Have fun diving underwater. Be sure to learn to swim gently, as rapid motions can fill the snorkel with water. Ascend, and then expel water again through the same process. Remove the snorkel, if necessary when you want to take time to breath freely above the water's surface.

Snorkeling without any dive gear

The same principles can be applied to snorkeling without dive gear, except for the obvious fact that you will not have an air tank or a regulator. There are other methods that can be used to clear the snorkel of water in this scenario. Just as you are ascending to the surface, tilt you head back a little then exhale a small amount of air into the snorkel. As you ascend, the air exhaled will expand and clear the tube automatically so that, just as when you are totally on the surface, the snorkel is free from any water.

It may be a challenging method, but you can perform it with a little practice. Also, always remember that when you reach the surface, you need to check that there is no water left on the snorkel. Do this by inhaling gently. If water is still present in your snorkel and the air you inhale is not enough, all you have to do is lift your head above the surface and remove the snorkel from your mouth. Then, reattach the snorkel to resume snorkeling and diving.

By learning how to use a snorkel, you are ensuring your safety underwater. Now you can enjoy discovering fantastic sea life while diving with your snorkel.
