3 Tips To Stop A Binge Eating Habit
Do you often indulge in binge eating? Have you tried everything you could think of
to stop this frustrating habit? A lot of people suffer from binge eating disorder. It is one of the most common eating disorders, specially in the USA.
However the sad part is that most people don't realize the seriousness of this disorder. They don't try to curb it in the early stages itself where it should be relatively easy to control. As time passes, getting rid of the disorder might become very difficult.
Here are some tips to stop binge eating. By following these tips you can gain some amount of control over your eating habits. For completely overcoming binge eating disorder, you need to seek professional help.
Tips to Stop Binge Eating:
1. Increase meal frequency - Binge eaters find it difficult to stay without food for long periods of time. So the best advice for them would be to increase meal frequency. Don't have 3 large meals in a day. Instead of that, opt for 5 or 6 smaller meals.
Note that you are increasing meal frequency but reducing the amount of food you eat during each meal. Don't eat till you are full. Eat in lesser quantities than normal. This way you will be spreading your meals throughout the day.
This technique can help you avoid eating junk food as you will be eating meals at regular intervals. You will be able to digest the food easily as you are taking smaller meals instead of large ones at a time.
2. Slow down while eating - Most binge eaters eat in a hurried pace. They need to slow down. Slow eating is one of the best ways to avoid overeating. Most of us don't enjoy our food as much as we should.
It is said that you need to chew each morsel of food at least 30 times or more before swallowing it. Very few of us do so. Chew your food well as it is good for digestion and also helps you to slow down while eating.
3. Focus on food - Most of us don't pay much attention to the food we eat. Our minds are preoccupied with other things. We chat with friends or watch TV while eating. In such cases are mind is more occupied with the TV program or what our friends have to say.
When we don't pay attention to the food in front of us, we tend to overeat. Even though we will eat more than required, we won't enjoy the food as much as we should as our minds are somewhere else.
When you sit down to eat, remove all worries and thoughts from your mind for sometime. Dedicate 15-20 minutes just for eating. Pay attention to the aroma and taste as you put each morsel in your mouth. Chew the food nicely and enjoy it.
