3 Ways To Get Higher And Higher In Avoriaz
The short road trip from Geneva to Avoriaz is merely a hop
, skip and a jump at under an hour and a half in duration. And hopping and skipping with excitement, jumping from high places, and experiencing the Alpine heights, from a variety of air borne contraptions, is the name of the game for summertime activities in the French Alps! The range of action summer sports on offer in the mountains is quite staggering. Below are three awesome activities that should raise you up to some giddy heights indeed.
Paragliding
The journey from Geneva to Avoriaz got you high in the Alps, but paragliding will get you even higher. Paragliding or 'parapenting' as the French call it is an extreme sport for the not too extreme. From the loftiness of the mountain peaks you can glide down to the bottom of the Alpine valley atop a tandem paraglider. Under full experienced instructor control the parachute is maneuvered while you enjoy the ride and the breathtakingly beautiful views. The sport is quite safe and only mildly scary on take-off. Helmets on and you are strapped to the front of your instructor who then takes you on a downhill run. As you accelerate, the parachute will take you up into the air. Once aloft you can glide above the pistes for up to twenty minutes. Your instructor is adept at catching the abundant thermal currents that will keep you airborne for longer. You will discover that the landing is also quite tame, just like jumping off a step.
Helicopter Tours
If you wish to get higher still, take a panoramic helicopter tour: gasp at the breath-taking vistas as you soar over the shifting glaciers, the snow-capped mountain peaks and the sprawling green alpine forests. Enjoy the 350-degree stunning views before you, and from this height you can even peruse from whence youve come - you can see all the way
from Geneva to Avoriaz. Weather permitting, local flight and mountain guide companies offer daily panoramic flights over the region.
Hot Air Ballooning
Yet another way to get high in Avoriaz is hot air ballooning, or Vol en Montgolfier to the French. Ballooning can look deceptively serene, until you remember that you are floating hundreds of metres above the ground in a tiny, wicker basket! Essentially your direction is at the mercy of the wind, although your pilot can control your height from Terra Firma. You may enjoy the views for hours awaiting a suitable place to land, and as you glide over the alpine forests you may think that this would have been the ideal way of commuting from Geneva to Avoriaz in the first place!
The numerous local adventure tour companies are certainly there to support you in all your endeavours to get higher and higher in the region; they will arrange all the details to ensure that all your anticipated, uplifting, Alpine experiences are realised.
