The novelty of 3D film has yet to wear off, as the British public continue to flock to cinemas across the country

. Gone are the days of enjoying plain 2D films, replaced by the attention grabbing 3D motion picture.

Only a handful of 3D films were released last year, but their success has led to more than one a month being released in the UK. The rise of 3D cinema has led to an increase in the number of children's films being made with the use of 3D animations. Disney's recent release 'Alice in Wonderland' and Pixars 'How to train a Dragon' were both released in 3D.

DreamWorks upcoming fourth instalment of the Shrek series 'Shrek forever after' will also be available to watch in 3D. Undeterred by the premium ticket prices, fans still go to cinemas full of anticipation for each new 3D release.

In the past some consumers have complained that 3D films have left them feeling sick, suffering side effects which include altered vision, headaches and dizziness.

When you watch a 2D film your eyes naturally focus on the whole screen. When watching a film in 3D, your brain is tricked into believing that the images aren't on the screen, but actually in front of it. This sometimes causes problems for the eyes, confused as to where they should look to produce a consistent image.

3D films used to be shown on two projectors with one projecting the image for the left eye and another projecting the image for the right. The 3D glasses would then enable viewers to see a different image in each eye. What's more, the two projectors were not always aligned, which meant watching the films caused some viewers to suffer from headaches.

The quick development of cinema technology has resulted in 3D films now being showed by just one projector. The advancement has reduced the likelihood that audiences will suffer from headaches, nausea and the other symptoms described.

This is great news for movie goers who enjoy the new sensory experience that comes from watching 3D films.
