Run an empty hot water cycle and add 2 cups of distilled white vinegar. If you suspect that molds are clogging the pipes, try stopping the washer for about 15 minutes before resuming the cycle. This will give the vinegar more time to loosen up debris. Allow the machine to purge out debris.

After doing this method, run another quick cycle in warm water setting. This should flush out remaining molds inside the machine. For moldy rubber gasket, just apply vinegar solution to the areas affected. Let the vinegar stay there for about 30 minutes before wiping it off.

3. To get rid of the smell, use baking soda. This cleaning ingredient can diffuse unwanted odor in the machine. It also has tiny particles that can slough off bacteria or grease on the walls of the machine.

Run the washer in the highest water temperature setting to dissolve baking soda. Add half a bag of baking soda and let the washer tumble. After the cleaning cycle, use an absorbent towel to wipe the interior of the machine. Leave the front door open to allow air to circulate inside better.

4. You can try using lemon juice. It has disinfectant properties that get rid of germs and bacteria. It also leaves a fruity scent behind. Run an empty cold water cycle and add a cup of fresh lemon juice. You can try heating up lemon in the microwave oven first. It softens up the lemon so you can extract more juice.
