To remove a clog in your toilet you need to prepare the materials needed

, do some plunging, test for drainage, then use a closet auger for stubborn clogs.

Having a clogged toilet is real pain in the neck. Not only it is annoying, but is also unsanitary. The clogs however are easily manage once you do the proper procedures. Here are the necessary steps to follow to remove these irritating clogs.

Prepare the materials

The first step is to get the materials needed to get rid of that clog. A ball plunger and a water closet auger may come in handy. You should know that there are 2 types of plunger, the cup and the the flange plunger. The more common cup plunger is designed for removing clogs in sinks and bathtubs or any other flat surface, these however are not appropriate to the toilet bowl's shape. The ball plungers have a design specific for sealing the opening of the bottom of the bowl an can maintain the necesssary pressure needed during the plunging.

Do the plunging

Once you have observed that the toilet is clogged, do not attempt to flush it again. Use the ball plunger and gently press it through the water allowing air to exit from the plunger bottom. If it is positioned well in the bottom of the bowl, perform now the plunging action carefully in an up and down motion until the water level is seemingly reduced.

Test for drainage

Now you can test if the plunging action was effective in removing the clog. Do not flush however, but instead gradually pour in water. You may also open the toilet tank and gently lift the flapper seal until water would go inside the bowl. If the water level goes down easily, the clog is removed. If not, perform again the procedures or you can do some other measures.

Use a closet auger

For stubborn clogs, you might want to resort in using a water closet auger. It's a specialized tool that gets through the clog and retrieves the obstructing object. To use it, push the cable into the bowl and twist the auger in a clockwise motion until it stops and push it forward. If it seems to have grabbed something, pull it out gently. After removing the object, perform again the plunging action to ensure the obstruction is finally removed, then flush your toilet.

By following the proper procedures, these clogs can be removed in just a single session. Using the wrong methods would cost you a lot of money.
