The flailing economy has hit many millions of families where it hurts

, and unemployment benefits may be extended for a period, but they won't be forever. Many more have been wage reduced and have had work hours cut down.

Employment seekers may have access to all kinds of jobs. Problem is that a great deal of those jobs require specialized skills or a certain amount of experience to even apply. Still others won't look at out-of-state applicants and even advertise on their job page that they want someone local to the area.

When faced with a dwindling savings account, paychecks showing less profit or eliminated altogether, and less companies hiring new employees, many are wondering what to do to earn money. You may have to learn your way into another career, but there are many jobs that don't require a lot of school time, if any, and costs can be leveled with financial aid, grants, and hardships grants and much more.

The medical arena is one that's never going to go away. The medical economy may fluctuate every so often, but people will always need medical assistance. You don't have to go to school for years on end, either. Nursing degrees take just a few years and different nursing levels mean different requirements of time and money. Don't forget all the drivers, aides, and support personnel - as well as the specialized fields of anesthesia, x-ray, and the like. And they pay well and have great benefits.

Truck driving jobs are always available. Truck drivers are wanted consistently, despite the economy. Goods need to get from one place to another and that's not going to change anytime soon. The best thing is that many truck driving jobs sponsor schooling, so you can learn as you earn. You'll also have choices to long- or short-haul, so you can see the country or stay close to home.

Like truck driving jobs, there will always be a need for computer specialists. The computer is here to stay and is permeating every aspect of our lives. Again, it requires some schooling, but you can get help with costs. The variety is also appealing. You can program, create Web sites, go into online sales, or specialize in a certain area.

The government is here to stay, too.
