4 Places Outside Of London To Visit When Staying In The City

The entire area that is encompassed under the city of London may be the most visited

part of the United Kingdom (15 million people visit each year, according to the Visit London Media Centre), but there will come a point when you feel that you have seen or done everything there is to in London if you make frequent visits.

If this is now the case and you're in the city wondering just what to do, think about heading outside of the area. There's no need to go far and transport links to and from the city centre are fantastic, meaning that you can travel to almost anywhere in the UK (or the world, in fact), without much hassle.

1. Chessington World of Adventures. If you're with a family in London (or you're simply a bit of a thrill seeker) and you've exhausted the attractions within the city itself, consider a trip to a local theme park. Chessington World of Adventures is a mere 12 miles from the centre of London, easily located just off two main roads, the A3 and M25.

2. Windsor. Located in Berkshire, Windsor is a short and easy train ride from Waterloo train station and according to Thames Web, takes just under one hour for the full journey.

Known primarily for Windsor Castle, one of the residences of the royal family (although nearby Legoland has made the area increasingly popular in more recent years), a visit to Windsor is highly recommend to see beautiful architecture, wonderful shops and restaurants and the natural beauty of the River Thames. In addition, you can take a walk over the river and see Eton College, one of the most famous colleges in the world.

3. Paris. Several years ago, a trip to another country from London was going to take you a good few hours travelling, making a one-day or single night trip not a real possibility. Since the opening of the Eurostar in 1994 however, you can now travel direct from St Pancras train station in London to Paris Nord in the capital of France in less than 2 hours and 30 minutes, depending on the day you travel. Furthermore, it can cost as little as 34.50 pounds one way according to the official Eurostar website, making it a relatively cheap yet extremely interesting day out.

4. The Beach. As one of the major tourist destinations in the world, there is only one thing that London is missing; a beach. Or is it?

If you've got a penchant for sun and sand and are in the centre of London, you're a lot closer to the ocean than you think and within only a few hours you can be at the seaside, enjoying the sun, an ice cream and a generally great day out.

Camber Sands in Rye, East Sussex, for example, is only 2 hours from the centre of London. Widely regarded as one of the best beaches in the south of England, Camber Sands features a wide bay, large sand dunes and is a particularly popular area for kite surfing.
