4 Steps to Fix Windows Update
Need an update to fix Windows update? Sounds like an oxymoron but that is what many Windows Vista owners are complaining about. Since it is such a common complaint, Microsoft rushed out a new operating system known as Windows 7. However, few people have the resources or the inclination to get a new computer just to fix a single error. So what can you do to fix this common problem?
Step 1: Update Windows
I know. I know. The whole reason you are looking for a fix is because you updated Windows. Well, the way to fix the error is by getting the new updates. Microsoft did eventually recognize this very unpopular error and put out a fix. So first thing you need to do is update to the latest version.
Step 2: Remove Unnecessary Programs
If you have updated windows and you are still having problems, then removing unused programs can sometimes speed up your computer and free up enough memory to get everything working properly. Tied-up memory is a common problem and is easily fixed.
The majority of Windows computers come with programs that you will never use. Therefore, you can go into the Uninstall Program function of Windows Vista and just remove all the programs you don't use.
To access the uninstall feature
Click Start
Click "Control Panel"
Find the "Uninstall or change programs", "Add/Remove Programs," or "Programs and Features" (this will depend on your version of Windows)
Click the program you wish to uninstall and click "Uninstall"
Step 3: Error-Checking
If you are still experiencing problems, then run a simple error check on your computer. This will take a while so don't do it when you need your computer. Many people wait until they go to bed or leave their houses.
To access the Windows Error-Checking function on Vista:
Click Start
Click Computer (opens a new window)
Right Click "C:"
Select Properties (opens a new window)
Click the "Tools" Tab
In the Error-Checking box click "Check Now"
Step 4: PC Cleaner Software
If you have done the three steps above and are still experiencing errors, then it is time to use PC cleaner software. Good software will scan your computer for all registry related errors. Then in just a matter of minutes, your computer will be error free and running like new again.
Even if the above steps work, it is still a good idea to run a PC cleaner. Not only will it get rid of errors you see, it will get rid of errors you do not see. These errors add up and really slow your computer down.
While Windows Vista is notorious for the update errors, it is a good operating system. You do not need to go out and buy Windows 7 to fix Windows update errors. It just takes a little patience to get all the updates installed and you will be set. Plus, if you run a PC cleaner on a regular basis, you won't have to worry about errors occurring in the future.
