4 Unforgettable Outdoor Attractions In Cumbria
If you are planning your vacation stay in Cumbria
, you know you are planning a journey to one of the most vibrant and lush landscapes in England. Though you will have plenty of luxury Lakes hotels to choose from when planning your accommodations, you will want to spend as much time as possible outdoors drinking in the beautiful scenery. Although many people simply hike the fells or stroll around the lake, there are many outdoor attractions you should include to make your trip truly memorable. Here are 4 of the must-see and must-do attractions during your stay:
1.Whinlatter Forest Park for the outdoorsy types
Whinlatter is England's only true forest park, located in Keswick. It rises 790 metres above sea level, giving visitors spectacular views of Scotland and the Lakes District. It affords ample opportunities for mountain biking, hiking, and has special trails and playgrounds for children. It is also home to Whinlatter Go Ape, an adventure course that has zip slides, rope bridges, and Tarzan swings. Visitors are outfitted with a climbing harness, given full instructions, and then allowed to go from tree to tree in the course, which at 360 metres above sea level is the highest adventure course in England.
2.See the country by air
Border Air Training is a flight experience in which you get the feeling of controlling the airplane under the instruction of a seasoned pilot. You can choose 30, 45, or 60-minute flights, which include a full pre-flight briefing. The flights cover the District, the Scottish border and the Solway Firth, and there is plenty of opportunities to take photographs. The airplanes are either 2-seaters or 4-seaters, depending upon how many guests wish to fly along. This is a perfect opportunity to see the entire countryside from a birds-eye view. It's also an ideal gift for the armchair pilot in the family.
3.Hot air ballooning for a romantic way to see the area
Hot air ballooning is a spectacular way to see the gorgeous Cumbrian countryside. Each flight lasts approximately two hours, from assisting with the inflation to packing away the balloon. During the first half hour of flight, you will get a panoramic view of the area at an altitude of 5,000 feet. During the last half of the flight, you will get closer to the ground to observe wildlife and the countryside more closely. Upon landing, you will receive the traditional glass of chilled champagne and a flight certificate. It's the perfect way to mark a special occasion, such as a birthday or wedding anniversary.
4.Lakes District National Park
This National Park encompasses most of the area, from its highest peak of Scafell Pike, to the deepest lake, known as Wastwater. Most of the villages in the area fall within its borders too. Within this park there are an amazing number of outdoors activities to keep you busy. You can trek on any of a hundred hiking trails, bike on the mountain bike trails, and splash or boat in any of a dozen lakes. This Park harbors and protects most of the natural beauty in the area, so it keeps the Cumbrian countryside serene and lush.
Even if you aren't typically an outdoorsy person, there are so many opportunities and different ways to enjoy the countryside. There is definitely something for everyone who books a holiday in Windermere.
