1. Learn One Thing At A Time
When starting something new, most people have a tendency to try to learn as much as they can about their new activity as quickly as they can. While in some endeavors this works well, with affiliate marketing this can quickly become overwhelming.
Instead of trying to learn it all at once, a new affiliate marketer should take things one step at a time, learn what is needed at that step, and then move on. Often the step is as simple as signing up for a web site that accepts user content, which can be learned quickly.
However, some things, like how to write effective articles, are much more involved, and actually involve learning many aspects of the skill. Taking your time in learning these steps will help you gain confidence and can help you achieve success much more quickly than trying to tackle too many things at once.
2. Make A Plan
It is said that if you fail to plan, you are actually planning to fail. This is definitely true when it comes to affiliate marketing. Without a plan, directed at achieving a specific objective, you are most likely to wander aimlessly through tasks and never achieve anything significant.
In "Start Where You Are," author Chris Gardner's follow-up to his bestselling book, "The Pursuit of Happyness," he states, "A dream without a plan is just a dream." If you don't know how you'll get from where you are to where you want to be, you're not going to get there.
3. Stick With It
If your first thought is that this tip is in reference to the plan from step 2, you're half right. Once you have a plan, you must consistently work toward achieving your objective. While the plan may change several times before you get there, as long as you have a plan and you work it consistently, you'll almost definitely find success.
The other half of this, though, is to not quit on affiliate marketing. An email I received from a fellow marketer had in the signature a statement to the effect that people don't fail at internet marketing, they simply quit before they succeed. Keep this in mind when things get tough, and remember to stick with it!
4. Test, Track, and Measure
When you're first getting started, it is easy to say that you'll start testing, tracking and measuring things when you have something to measure. This is backwards. You will have more success when you know what is working, and you can't know what is working until you test, track and measure everything.
5. Attitude Is Everything
The attitude with which you approach anything will determine your success in that endeavor. As a matter of fact, there is no better indicator of success. If you go into affiliate marketing with a positive attitude, and a belief that you can achieve your objectives, you will find success. And, you will probably find that you have success beyond anything you could imagine.
