5. The Marquee Tent

The Marquee tent is possibly one of the most well known special events tents around. It is essentially a large temporary building and has been used for county fairs, banquets, weddings and sponsored events for decades and in some instances centuries. It is made of either canvas or polythene and in the case of more up market Marquees PVC.

Marquee tents are the most common special events tents used in Europe and North America. They are however being fast eclipsed by the more unique special events tents listed below.

4. The Pole Marquee Tent

These tents are based on the original Bedouin Tent designs favoured by the dessert tribes of North Africa and the Middle East. The tents are extremely popular in both South Africa and Australia where they were first developed as special events tents. This style of tent is becoming more and more popular in other markets such as Scandinavia as they are not only safe, reliable and waterproof, but can also be erected on almost any ground surface.

In many parts of the world these tents are often referred to as Freeform, Stretch or Flex Tents

3. The Aluminium Frame Tent

The Aluminium frame tent is another unique special events tent option that has grown in popularity over the past few years. It is exceptionally popular in the Far East and North America because it can be used to increase the roof area of an adjacent building. Thanks to its stability it can also be used to cover wide areas such as swimming pools and even small trees.

These tents are commonly used at conventions and small venue concerts to create additional space for the event or to be used as a separate VIP area.

2. The High Peak Frame Tent

Also called high top tents, these tents take advantage of the fact that they are easy to assemble, have a clean look once assembled and need fewer parts once erected. Most international tent manufacturers have this as a special events tent option in their tent range.

Although not as popular as they once were these tents are still regularly used in the USA, Europe, Great Britain and Eastern Europe.

1. Bail Ring Tents

Bail ring tents are 30m x 45m wide and can be expanded to almost any conceivable length. They are made from either canvas or vinyl and need a dedicated crew to erect due to the large size.

This tent is erected using the same bail ring process used to set up circus tents from before the invention of forklifts and skid-steers. The popularity of this style of tent has waned over the past decade or so.
