5 Great Tips To Win A Photography Contest

So many people find that they can apply their creativity through their photography

. This is especially so for those people who really see things differently. What is regular or common to most of us is already a work of art for a photographer. With the advent of digital cameras, more and more are encouraged to pick up this hobby. Digital cameras offer more in terms of flexibility. The photographer does not have to buy so many rolls of film because it is digital. You don't need to scrimp on your photos because you can take as many photos as you. With just one click, you can immediately see if the picture is great or not. No more need to wait for the film to be developed. In order to further hone this skill, you can join a photo contest. Be aware of the following tips to increase your chances of winning.

1. Read and study the rules well. Two or three pages of rules in size 6 font can discourage anybody from reading it all. However, rules are created for a reason in a photo contest and it should be studied well. One of the things that the rules state is the size of the picture. Should the picture be printed or can you submit an entry by email. When emailing an entry, should it be in JPEG or GIF? Too many times, a great picture has been disqualified because the photographer did not study the rules well.

2. Know the theme of the contest and stick to it. The judging panel in a photography contest will announce beforehand what theme the submitted entries should be following. Sometimes, they will accept an entry that may seem far away from the theme. Most often, they will reject it if the photo submitted strays too far from the theme. However, don't let the theme keep you from practicing more of your creativity. The theme can even inspire the budding photographer to develop the necessary skills to produce a great picture.

3. Do your research. If the photo contest has been going on every year, do your research on their past winners. The past winning photos will give you an idea on what the judges are looking for. Aside from doing research on past winners, it will also be wise to research the judges' profiles. Get to know them better and try to see if you can determine how they judge photo contests.

4. Submit only your best work. Learn to develop a critical eye and try to look at your pictures critically. Sometimes, there are elements in the background which you did not notice before that would suddenly pop out.

5. Finally, enter another photography contest. If you have already won, enter another one to increase your credibility. If not, go for another one to further improve your skill. Never give up on yourself. As with anything in life, it's not really the end that matters- it's what you do to get there that speaks volumes about you.
