5 Reasons Why Dell Servers Are the Market Leader

Dell servers, especially the long-running PowerEdge lineup

, have a rock-solid reputation for reliability. This is used as a selling point in some circles, but the bottom line is that any serious server needs to be stable and perform reliably and thus reliability should be considered a bare minimum requirement for any serious office or company IT department. Having said that, there are still 5 good reasons why Dell servers are considered to be some of the best servers on the market.

Reason #1: Remote hardware management. Every office and department from a small workgroup up to those that use enormous rooms lined with orderly racks filled with servers knows the benefits of remote management, and this is an area where few competitors can honestly say that they even compete on the same playing field. With a superior hardware based out of band management system, it is possible to configure most Dell servers in several ways regardless of whether they are online or offline!

POST IP assignments, virtual discs and ISO loading, networking configuration files, user management, software licensing, and more compliment the exiting BIOS offerings 24/7. This makes managing an entire data center full of Dell servers a task that nearly anyone with a little experience can handle and it does not matter if they are kicking back on a beach in Thailand with a WiFi spot or in the IT office. The competition also has remote management features, but they just don't measure up.

Reason #2: Hardware design that looks as good as it runs. While nearly everyone can build servers that look good, that does not mean that it runs well internally. Limited air flow can be a serious problem in a server, especially if it is going to be attached to a rack full of other components. Dell servers have a long history of high-ventilation designs, ample heat sinks on chips that the competition sometimes leaves bare, and using low-speed/low-noise fans when the competition would possibly opt for a passive cooling solution.

Reason #3: Easy upgrades. Not all OEMs and hardware designers tend to make their professional grade solutions easy to maintain and/or upgrade. Dell servers have a history of being easy to upgrade and work with, a factor that many overlook until it is too late. It might seem like a silly thing to praise, but downtime during server upgrades or replacements can be extremely costly. This is triply true when the upgrade or downtime is not planned. Every second counts and nobody wants to be looking for custom tools to pry apart a hard drive enclosure to access a memory bank when the accounting system is down.

Reason #4: Online restoration. Dell servers come backed up with serial-number based tools on their online site that include the latest versions of the software bundled with their professional-grade hardware. This means that Windows or other OSes come pre-patched, and so do other programs. If and when a hardware failure does happen, it is nice to know that hours of patching and rebooting is not going to be part of the solution.

Reason #5: It is hard to beat the price. Dell servers, like their other products, are very competitive when it comes to pricing. Sure, there are a few competitors that offer lower prices with the same memory, CPU, and hard drive configurations, but do they come with the same level of remote management, designs that are easy to work with, legendary reliability, or online restoration files that are kept up to date by IT professionals? Probably not.

Dell servers are an excellent option for anyone who needs a reliable professional-grade computer for any size office or server farm. Take your time and compare Dell servers in order to find model or models that suit your serious computing needs.
