5 Signs You Cannot Trust Your Insurance Agent

An insurance agent is a very important person in your life. He is the one who handles your insurance-related affairs, the one you depend on to translate the jargon so you understand what you are getting into, the one who you trust to have your interests uppermost in his mind. After all, you need your insurance company the most when you are at your lowest and you expect your agent to understand that. Unfortunately, things don't always work out that way. Insurance agents are sometimes more busy trying to sell you policies you don't need for that enticing slice of commission rather than taking care of your best interests. So how do you know if your agent has gone to the dark side? You look out for these warning signs:- 1. An agent who talks nineteen to the dozen and whose favorite language is 'jargon' is not someone you can trust. Look for someone who will break down the technical elements of the policy to easily digestible chunks and is patient with you. 2. A bad agent does not encourage comparison. As soon as you bring up other policies you feel are right for you, he will either change the subject or start trashing the policy in question. 3. Does your agent respond to your questions with a straight answer? Or does he beat around the bush complimenting you on how piercing your questions are and how many people wouldn't think of asking them. If he does that, it means he is trying to get you to like him. And why would he need to do that if he had offers for you that were really great? 4. If your agent talks about a policy without revealing ANY negative, or any catch, he is probably hiding something. Nothing comes without a price tag, and if he isn't up front about what you have to pay, he is probably too busy trying to get a sale under his belt. 5. If your agent is willing to bend the law for you (e.g. cover up a preexisting condition, overlook a police record), you should have alarm bells going off in your head immediately. He may be willing to risk his reputation in desperation to make a sale, but would you really want your claim denied when you need it the most?
