When renting a car it is not enough just to find a company and pay for it. To get the best deal there are some steps to follow:

1. Find three or four car rental agencies that suit you needs and wants. You can do that either by looking in the phonebook; or maybe even better on the internet. Always scan all the possible firms before you pick one. You do not want to miss the best offer you because you got bored in the middle of the investigation.

2. Contact the car rental firms and ask about the following things: location, availability, rates, special offers, special rates, pickup sites, hotel and airline partnerships, insurance and extra charges. You should ask all the questions that can lower the price you have to pay for the car rental; or at least what can make the car hire more convenient for you.

3. Find a pickup point that works for you and one that will not be a hassle. Some car rental agencies accept to pay for a cab to take you to the pickup pint, while others will pick you up at the airport or at your home.

4. Pick a car, depending on your needs. Find a car that could fit all the people you'll have in it, and if you're alone just use a compact, because some rentals charge higher for larger vehicles.

5. When you have decided which car to rent, you must remember to book it. Some agencies put the reservation fee on the overall rent, while other makes it out as an extra fee. Always look of for this when renting a car.
