When we staying at a computer for long periods of time without breaks can place a strain on our bodies and result in a condition called computer fatigue syndrome.
If your eyes get tired, then it's very likely that you'll find it more difficult to focus, which will ultimately lead to a lower level of performance during your line of work. Extended usage of electronics such as computers, laptops, and iPads can lead to tired and even painful eyes, which can lead to physical fatigue, reduced productivity, irritability and frustration. However, there are a few ways to reduce the overall strain on the eyes during the course of a day.
1. Make sure your workspace is well lit. Don't have bright lights glaring from surfaces in your office, and be sure you have enough light to let you see clearly.
2. Try to arrange your workspace so that you can periodically look beyond the computer screen to the opposite side of the room.
3. Blink your eyes every few minutes - this slows the drying out and helps replenish the tear film to prevent dryness and irritation. Studies have shown that when people are working on the computer, they blink less often, and tend to keep their eyes open a bit wider that usual. This promotes dry eyes, and results in gritty sensations in the eye. Try to remember to blink often to keep your eyes well hydrated.
5. Take a few breaks
another method that usually helps in fighting back eye-strain (at least temporarily) is to take some short breaks from staring at the PC display. Hence, for around five minutes each hour, you should do something else, like walk out, look out the window, etc., anything that will take your eyes off the screen. This exercise reduces the risk of your eyes' focusing ability to "lock up after prolonged computer work.
Our eyes are very sensitive and important, so it would do us well to keep them healthy and prevent them from being fatigued. Treat your eyes well with proper lighting, proper displays, and proper eye exercise. Over time, you will notice that your eyes are less bothersome and less irritable, allowing you to remain productive and free of eye-related frustrations.
