. We are currently in a recession, and every where you look people are struggling to make ends meet. Whether you fear the economic downturn or are just looking for an additional resource to make more income; you should follow these simple guidelines for working from home.
1. Get Settled - Make a area in your apartment or house where you can start doing your work from home. Keep it neat and tidy. Always just use this area for work, and work only. Do not work in your bedroom; set a spot aside where you can punch in and punch out as, you would at a traditional job. Work from home is exactly what it is; you are working from home.
2. Communication - It may sound very common, but consider contacting your business contacts via telephone verses always contacting them through email. Just because you own a business from home does not mean you need to always contact people via email. Often, a simple phone call can benefit you more than emailing someone. It is more personal rather than just keeping an email communication with a client.
3. Break Time - Do not just sit at home and work on your computer. Believe me, you really need to take a break every couple hours. New ideas will often occur to you when you are taking a break. Call up that friend and go see a movie from time to time. Get out of the house; if you do not get out of the house regularly you will get burnt out and it will show in your work.
4. Family and Friends - This could probably go with taking a break. But don't get to involved in your work by working non-stop. Set boundaries with your friends in family. You will have a set schedule when you are working in your office. Do not neglect your friends or family; it is a job like an other jobs.
5. Networking - Really in the work at home workforce it is all about networking. You are a business owner and your job does relate around keep and establishing business contacts. Always keep an Excel file or a list off all your business contacts handy. You can easily get tons and tons of contacts through your current contact list.
