If you are working on designing a website for your business there is a lot to consider. You are most likely thinking about color schemes, buttons, web forms and navigation. Here are some tips to help you achieve better page design and quality.

Once you choose a color scheme, stick with it! You do not want to have different pages have different colors or too many unrelated colors. You should pick two or three complimentary colors to work with and use them throughout your design. Think clean colors that will not distract your viewers or make your page hard for them to read.

Find a template. If you are new to web design or still learning a great way to get started is by using a template. Templates are pre-set up web designs that you all you have to do is add your content to the pre-designed pages. These can be a big help in getting your website up and running.

Use backgrounds that make your text easy to read. Most experts believe a white background with black text is easiest for people to read. Although you do not have to go black and white you should have a good contrast between the text and the background to be sure it is easy for your viewers to read. Also check live links and make sure they are readable both before and after being clicked.

Avoid distractions. Things like flashing graphics, busy backgrounds and auto loading sounds are big distractions for most people. You want to keep people on track so avoid anything too glitzy or loud that is likely to distract them.

Internal links should open in the same window and external links should always open in a second window. If someone is following a link that leads to another page on your site there is no reason to open a second window to handle the request. However if you have a link that goes to another site it is a good idea to use a new window that way when the person is done with the site you sent them to they will be able to easily get back to your site.
