Hi, I'm a cosmetic dermatologist and I really want to help you look after your skin as best as you can. I am frequently asked, 'What is a good cosmetic product and what sorts of things should you do to help your body?' So today I'd like to share 5 easy but effective skin care tips with you.

The first thing I would like to share with you, that most people do, is to take showers that are too hot and too warm. That unfortunately it is harsh on your skin and dries it out. You know how people who soak in a hot tub frequently get skin that looks like a prune? Well that's not too healthy, so avoid taking baths and showers that are too hot.

A second piece of advice I frequently tell people is that they should use products that are not heavily scented. One of the products I find that has traditionally been a problem is Irish Spring soap because it contains harsh chemicals that cause a lot of rashes for people. So avoid heavily scented products.

A third thing I can share with you, that is a wonderful thing that everybody should do, is to use a moisturiser Specifically, one that's designed for their skin-type. Some people need a heavier moisturiser, some people need a light moisturiser and you should take advice from a good cosmetic professional so that they can advise you on the most appropriate moisturiser for you.

My fourth piece of advice is that everybody should be aware of the damage caused by sunlight. Sunlight can cause a lot of problems for people and it should be avoided during the hottest times of the day between 10 and 3 o'clock. Sunlight is a major problem for many people and we see a lot of the skin cancers we have as a result of too much sun exposure and damage.

I would also like to suggest that you avoid tanning booths. Tanning booths give you unnatural sunlight and they concentrate the light a lot more than the regular sun. People who get suntanned in a sun tanning parlour have a higher risk of skin cancer, a higher risk of burns and they have a higher risk of wrinkles and no one wants to go to a wrinkle

And finally - sunscreen. What sort of sunscreen should you use? Something with a high number, a 30 to 45 factor, something that will really protect you and it should be repeated every two hours when you're out in the sun. So in addition to avoiding the sun, you should protect yourself when you're in it. This will help you look after your skin and avoid problems from skin cancers.
