5 Ways To Get The Ultimate Tan
The sun is a difficult thing to resist, especially if you don't see it that often
. When we do happen to find ourselves on a beach or boat, we are tempted to oil up and lay out in the sun. This is a bad idea. It not only results in bad sunburns, but that much sun isn't good for your skin. A few tips for those who love to bronze:
1. Get your base before you oil up:
You skin is at its most sensitive when it hasn't seen the sun in a while. As a result it is important to put strong sunscreen on your first few days out, and try to stay in the shade as much as possible. After you have a base coat you can move on to a lower SPF.
2. Drink lots of water:
Laying out in direct sunlight dehydrates you and your skin. You must therefore remember to drink lots of water throughout the day and night. Your skin will tan better and be thankful for the moisture and hydration.
3. After sun moisturiser:
Speaking of giving your skin extra moisture, it's always a good idea to put on regular body lotion after a day of laying out in the sun. It will also help re-hydrate your skin and keep a nice and even tan.
4. Keep reapplying:
Sunscreen comes off in the water and with body sweat. It is important to keep re-applying it throughout the day. This is even more true for the sensitive skin of young children, people who are more fair as well as those who haven't been in the sun in a while.
5. Don't be fooled by wind, clouds and water:
Just because your body feels cool it doesn't mean that the sun isn't shining on it. When does this happen? If you're cruising on a boat, the wind will be at your skin but so too will the sun. If the clouds are out, your body might feel less hot but sun can still shine through overcast. If you're in the water and feeling refreshed the sun is still beating down on you.
As much as we all love the heat, try to stay cool when out having fun in the sun. Take breaks in the shade, keep your sunscreen on all the time, drink lots of water and re-hydrate your skin with lotion after you've taken your evening shower.
