5 Ways To Save At The Supermarket Without Going Extreme
Have you caught a glimpse of Extreme Couponing
, a hot new show on TLC television network? It is hard to believe that clipping coupons is actually interesting enough to be worth of a dedicated television show. A major key to the extreme couponing lifestyle is having space to store non perishables that you buy in bulk when it is on sale and you have a coupon for it.
However, even if the extreme is not for you, here are five money saving coupon tips that we can all learn and apply in our everyday lives:
1) Sunday newspaper is a better investment than stock market!
For example, a $1.50 investment in the Sunday paper more than pays for itself with all the manufacturer coupons that you can clip. I easily get $4 to $5 worth of coupons without trying very hard. Most of us buy just one Sunday paper. Serious couponers subscribe to several Sunday papers, just to get their hands on multiple coupons. You might use a product that your neighbors don't use so ask them if you can cut out the same coupon from their newspaper (for example: diapers if you have a baby and the neighbors do not).
2) Secret Discount Codes
Beyond clipping coupons there are other easy ways to save money when shopping, including discount codes for shopping online. Before buying an item on the Internet, you should always search for a discount code using a search engine like Google or Bing. There are many discount code websites that you can check regularly and add to your favorites list.
3) Get Daily Deals
The latest trend in accessing discounts is daily deals. Free services are now online which send you a special deal each day to your email inbox. Examples include 50% off at a local restaurant and deeply discounted tickets to a park or show that you might take your children to. Just don't forget to use the discount after you purchase it because they have expiration dates.
4) Know Your Stores
Each store has its own coupon policy. Pay attention to weekly newspaper inserts from stores because they always brag about their coupon policy if they have a good one. Look for stores that allow double coupons. Some stores will choose one day of the week when double coupons can be used. Other stores may place a limit on the total number of coupons for the same product that you can use at one time.
5) Organize Your Coupons
How many times have you clipped coupons, stashed them in a drawer and forgotten about them? A few months later you find that they are expired. It does not matter if you are an extreme couponer with hundreds or a casual couponer with a handful, you have to have a process in place to be organized about using coupons. There is not one solution that is right for everyone. You can use envelopes sorted by product category (frozen foods, breads, veggies, etc). Another way is to sort coupons by expiration date so you avoid missing out on saving money. Whenever you finalize your shopping list before your next trip to the supermarket, remember to check for coupons (both online and the paper ones you clipped).
In this tough economy, families are relying more heavily upon coupons to save money. You don't have to become a member of the extreme couponing club to be a smart shopper. Take some of the same strategies that they use and apply them to your life. One thing you can always do is print free coupons from online resources.
