, it's essential that you build lasting relationships with your readers. Glance back over a few of your last posts and ask yourself if you sound like someone who is a trusted friend or a stuffy authority figure. If you are leaning toward the stuffy authority figure, here are 5 ways to successfully improve your blog.

1. Respect your readers:

In order to respect your readers you first need to know who they are. For instance, I know my readers are people who are struggling online and need helpful, valuable and useful information they can apply easily. They appreciate that I write my posts as if I'm talking to just them. Sharing with them things I have learned that have helped me grow and that will help them as well. Let your words flow from the heart and don't expect anything in return. That is when more will come back to you.

2. Imagine talking to your readers face to face:

Write your posts like you are talking to a friend face to face. Explain things in easy to understand terms. Try to imagine that you are just chatting with a good friend as you write and don't over analyze things. The words will flow much easier and your readers will appreciate that.

3. Get off your pedestal:

Some people talk beneath us and its obvious when reading some blog posts. Like when you present yourself as a "know it all". That comes across in some posts. Whether you are or you are not, don't come off to your readers that way. You also need to do your research before making any claims in your posts. You need to be able to back up what you say as factual.

4. Be careful with your phrasing:

If you are experienced in a certain area, share this with your readers up front. Explain things in a user friendly language. Never tell your readers what to do or imply that they can do certain things better. Always come across with friendly terms such as I think instead of I believe, never say you must, you can or in my experience. Remember you want to connect with your readers, not turn them away.

5. Include your readers:

I can't emphasize how important it is to treat your readers as trusted friends. Although you might not be over at their house, be able to take them to dinner, or watch their pet while they are on vacation, you still need to communicate with them as friends. Focus on your readers, how can you benefit them, what information will be helpful, what tips can you share that they can use today. Write your posts as if they are trusted friends you've known a long time and you are just eager to help them grow and learn. Invite them into the conversation. Ask them what information would benefit them and start a dialogue.
