5 methods of transport used by UK Courier Companies

We all get excited when a courier arrives at our door with that package that we were expecting. Most of the time we do take Couriers for granted because we live in an age where we can just click our fingers and items arrive (well, not literally but you know what I mean!).

The truth is that courier companies have to navigate certain routes to get our parcels from the originating city / town to the destination (us!) and sometimes this can be trickier than others. For example, if your package has come from the US and you live in the UK then it will, no doubt, have taken a number of journeys using various methods of transport.

Here is a list of 5 different types of transport that a courier company might use to get your parcel to you:

1. Van - The most common form of transport for national delivery and something that we are used to seeing on our roads all the time. Courier Companies use vans to deliver all sorts of different types of packages over land that usually span distances between major towns and cities.

2. The Push Bike If you live outside of London then this might not be such a common site. To beat the traffic in London courier companies often use pushbikes or small-motorised scooters. This means that they can deliver more efficiently on time promises.

3. Ship In some circumstances couriers may need to deliver your goods to a destination over water. The journey can therefore require a shipment of goods (or maybe even the van will simply board a ferry)

4. Air If you parcel is small enough and needs to travel great distances it might be cost effective to send it via airmail. Not many courier companies own their own fleet of planes so it may well be carried as part of a chartered flight.

5. Motorbike In cases of extreme urgency a motorbike might be used. Motorbikes can generally get to the destination quicker than a van as they can beat the traffic, particularly long stretches of jams on motorways

So there you have it. Even if your parcel arrives using a particular form of transport it may have travelled using at least two or three of the above.
