and you thought your job was bad

The American government has placed a host of restrictions and regulations on employees and industries in the aim of protecting American workers. However some jobs are just outright dangerous. Below are the 6 most dangerous jobs in the United States.

Fishermen

Fishermen hit the open waters every year to haul in pounds of fresh seafood. However, their job is a perilous one. Between the use of heavy machinery, dangerous weather conditions, and sleep deprivation, more fishermen die every year than any other profession.

Loggers

Trees provide many of the basic building materials we use every day. The men who risk their lives to provide us with these materials do so at a great expense. Loggers experience a fatality rate of 61.8 per 100,000.The most common cause of death amongst loggers is having a branch snap beneath their feet, being hit by a falling tree, or being killed by the heavy machinery they use.

Alaskan Bush Pilots

Airline pilots experience a fatality rate of 57.1 deaths per 100,000 pilots. The most common cause of death is inclement weather and poor decision making. That's why many successful bush pilots return to the classroom to teach would-be pilots the rules for flying in this unforgiving land.

Often thought of as a safe, low-tech job, modern farmers and ranchers face an entire host of dangers. Over turned tractors, truck collisions, and animal incidents are the top three causes of death for these agriculturally based jobs. Another over looked cause of death is large machinery making contact with overhead power-lines. Though farmers are told of this danger every harvest, accidents still happen resulting in the death of many farmers.

Roofers

As you would expect, roofers face danger everyday they go to their job. As part of their job description, roofers are required to work long hours at incredible heights. The risk of falling is always present. However, another risk is always lurking just around the corner. That risk is hot tar. Roofers work with a huge amount of hot tar every day. The tar may be heated to as much as 525 degrees Fahrenheit. If a worker makes contact with their skin to the tar, or if an accident should occur around the tar, the roofer risks severe burns.

Ironworkers

Imagine working 500-feet about ground with nothing between you and the pavement below but a 4inch wide piece of steel. That is daily life for Americas Ironworkers. As these men and women build our countries famed skyscrapers, they are constantly putting their lives on the line. The average salary of an Ironworker- $44,500. For that amount of money, it takes a special person to make it as an Ironworker.
