6 Rental Truck Money Saving Tips- How to Save Money Renting a Truck

When people plan to move from point A to point B, they have to wonder if it would behoove them to rent a truck and do the moving themselves.

Here are some ways to SAVE money for those who do plan to rent a truck and things to evaluate when determining the true cost of moving yourself.

1. Local versus Long Distance?

Most truck rental places have two different fee schedules; one for local and another for long distance, so find out exactly what the charges will be so that you don't get any surprises in the end.

2. Mileage Charges?

Many times a rental truck will come with unlimited mileage, and some times there are a certain amount of miles included depending on how far you are moving or the length of time you will need the truck. Knowing these charges will help you shop for the best deal, and again, you don't want any surprises in the end.

3. Return with a Full Tank of Gas?

They will always give you a truck with a full tank of gas, just as rental car companies do, but they expect you to return it with a full tank, otherwise they will have a member of their staff fill the tank and they will charge you much more than the actual cost of the gas for the convenience of it. Be sure to fill up the tank before returning the vehicle, any time you rent a vehicle, whether for moving, or even when on vacation.

4. Mid-Month...Off Season?

The busiest season for moving is from Mid-May until Mid-September, so if you are moving during this time period, be sure to make a reservation way in advance and be sure to double-check what the rates will be.

If you can avoid moving during this "season" you would probably be better off. Also, more people move at the end or the beginning of a month, so to move in the middle of the month might help you get a better deal...rental truck-wise!

5. Brand New Moving Boxes?

People often decide to just buy new moving boxes, which is a brilliant idea because they are easier and safer to stack, there is less of a chance of someone getting hurt, and fewer risks of your things getting broken.

But when you buy them there in the lobby while picking up the rental truck, you will pay a higher price for the convenience, just like buying something in a convenience store. The pint of ice cream there is $4.99, but in the grocery store...it's only $1.89. Besides, when you rent a truck, it is too late to be buying and packing boxes, as they should already be packed before you bring the truck home...remember...the "clock" is ticking.

So, you would be better off to order moving boxes, or even a moving kit, and have it shipped to your home...weeks before the move. It just makes more sense...money-wise!Go to: www.MovingBoxDelivery.com for the lowest prices and excellent quality boxes!

6. Insurance?

They will offer to sell you additional insurance, but you might either, A) get coverage through your own personal automobile policy (check with your paperwork or agent) or, B) get coverage through a credit card, so be sure to chec the terms and conditions of your "better" cards.

Hopefully, all will work out well, and you won't even need to use the insurance because you, the truck, and your possessions will arrive safely. But for the slight chance that you have a tiny fender bender, for example, don't let it ruin your day, week, month, or year...sometimes that's just the way it crumbles...cookie-wise!
