6 Tips For Better Digestion
Good health is much more than eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly
. It is necessary to have a healthy digestive system because many serious health disorders are linked to impaired digestion. Because it is very common, most people believe that it is normal to experience bloat, indigestion, gas and tiredness after meals. Not true. These conditions can be avoided if your digestive system is in good health. Also, your body will be able to maximize the food that you consume.
Here are 6 ways to help you digest your food better:
1. Eat slowly. Allow yourself to savor the food you are eating and resist the temptation of stuffing yourself rapidly even when you are extremely hungry. Chewing your food well allows the enzymes in your saliva to break down the food in preparation for the subsequent processes as it progresses down your digestive tract. Rushing through your meal upsets the natural course of digestion at the very beginning. When you do this, expect some kind of digestive trouble to come upon you.
2. Eat a balanced diet. If you put the wrong stuff into your digestive tract, don't expect it to respond normally. For instance, eating too much junk food which contains a lot of harmful additives will certainly result in negative consequences sooner or later. In the same way, if you eat foods that are beneficial to your health such as those which are rich in fiber, then your digestive system will function properly. Make sure to eat from all 4 food groups. When food shopping, take your cart along the edges of the store where the bakery, vegetable, dairy, and meat and poultry sections are. You would be able to get what you need from the 4 food groups if you do this and meal planning would be easier.
3. Eat only when you are hungry. If you eat just because the clock tells you its time, you will not be able to digest your food properly because your stomach may not secrete the enough enzymes needed for good indigestion. Next time you feel that you have to eat because its breaktime, lunch time, or dinnertime but you don't feel hungry, think twice. Not only will you be sparing yourself of possible digestive trouble, you will be cutting down on calories as well.
4. Know which food you are allergic to. Sometimes problems with digestion is caused by food allergy. For this reason, it is important to find out if there are any which triggers your body to have allergic reactions. Knowing which ones these are, you would be able to avoid them. Food allergies interfere with the normal process of digestion thus when you get an upset stomach, experience bloat or diarrhea after eating certain foods, chances are you are allergic to them.
5. Control your sugar intake. Sugar causes a lot of problems. It is very fattening, raises blood sugar levels, and promotes the growth of harmful bacteria and yeast in the digestive tract. When there are large quantities of these organisms in your system, you would not be able to digest properly.
You do not have to suffer chronic digestive trouble, you simply need to support good digestion by following the tips given above. As an added benefit, these tips will also help you get rid of excess weight.
