Revelations have recently been made by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office that may

surprise many UK drivers, and emphasise to them the importance of obtaining the correct European Breakdown Cover.

Teaming up with Professor Geoff Beattie from Manchester University, the FTO have created what they believe to be proof that when driving abroad, UK drivers are at their most vulnerable to accidents within the first hour of driving.

The research also highlights the fact that when utilizing the same 100-110 kmph speeds as the locals, UK drivers are one and a half times more likely to have an accident, simply due to not being used to driving at these speeds. This lack of understanding highlights how important it is to have the correct european breakdown cover when driving abroad.

As well as this, the other worrying statistic is as a result of many Britons forgetting to drive on the other side of the road, which makes them 4 times more likely to have an accident. Also, UK drivers are 2 times more likely to have an accident than they would be in the home countries, due to avoidance maneuvers having to be performed in the opposite direction.

Whilst there are many aspects of this report that do provide concern, it's important to remember that there are measures that can be taken to avoid foreign accidents, but that obtaining the correct UK breakdown cover is very important.
