7 Quick Maintenance Tips For Your Pc
In today's generation, people are highly dependent on their computers
, may it be the personal computer at home or in the office, laptops, tablets, etc. We do our everyday work using such technology, even small jobs like schedules, alarms, notes or anything else. Computers partially, if not completely, remove our need of other things such as newspapers since we can check news online, or printed books since we can already get the printed versions. Computers make our lives easier and faster. We do not need now to line up in the movie booth to purchase tickets; we can do it over the net. We do not need to go to other countries to hold meetings; we can just set up video conferences.
With such great things the computer can do for us, there is also a great responsibility on our side to take care of it, to prevent it from working slower or to protect it against viruses. No one wants a computer that is slow. No one also wants to have important files to be corrupted by viruses.
There are a lot of ways for us to maintain our computer's performance and speed. The list below are 7 quick things to do to maintain our personal computers or commonly known as PCs. Although the list concentrates more on maintenance of PCs - since these are the ones most of the people use, but other tips may also apply for other gadgets.
(1) Remove unnecessary files
Review your unnecessary files - documents, movies, etc, even once a week or twice a month specially when your disk space goes low.
Aside from the files you save in your PC, other files are also store specially when you download something from the internet, or update program files. If you can observe, there is a folder where all your downloaded data goes by default. Take time to review the downloaded files and remove what you don't already need.
When browsing the web, temporary files are also stored. Most of these files correspond to your browser's history data. You can clear this daily or weekly by choosing to delete the history data under your primary browser's internet options.
(2) Uninstall unnecessary programs
Remove programs you don't need any more to clear up the space these programs uses in your disk, stop these programs from running and stop getting updates.
(3) Check hard disk(s) regularly
Aside from checking the filed in your disk, you also need to check the disks itself. You have to make sure the disk is still working properly, if the disk has problems unsolved, etc. There are built-in programs your operating system has to check and repair disk errors. You just have to run these programs once or twice a month.
(4) Install a trusted anti-virus
These anti-virus programs will keep viruses away from your PC or any access from the web that will cause any problems in your PC. Make sure to schedule daily scans and update these anti-virus programs to ensure safety.
(5) Defrag your disk
When you have files with big memory space, the disk will save them into fragments. When the file is accessed, your operating system will put these fragments back together. To make sure that your operating system will not have any problems with these fragments and to help it find the fragments and put them together, you have to defrag your disk once in awhile to rearrange the fragments to a more desirable position, and repair bad fragments.
(6) Update programs to latest version
Updating the programs will let you use the more improved and better versions. Most company will improve the programs by making them faster, or letting them produce better quality of the output, etc.
(7) Run only needed programs
There are a lot of programs that run during start-up. You can quit some programs you need or uncheck any options that will automatically start them when you logged in into your PC.
When you don't need the program any more, close/exit it so that your PC can stop managing such program.
Do not also limit to the list above. There are other things you can add to help your PC maintenance. Those are just things you can do once or twice a week. Constant practice can turn these basic and quick maintenance steps to habit.
