7 Quick Quit Smoking Tips
With the new year upon us, many people have already started to make their new year resolutions
. Though we usually have a large list of different resolutions that we would like to stick to there is one resolution that is always near the top of many people's list. This is one of the most popular resolutions and is also one of the hardest to stick to - quit smoking.
Everyone knows that smoking is bad for your health. The government has made it harder on the tobacco companies by requiring them to put even more warnings on their products. Five million people die each year worldwide from smoking. Out of those five million, 443,000 of those deaths occur in the United States.
Smoking causes a variety of health problems; cancer being the leading health issue, as well as heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular problems.
Sometimes smokers have a hard time stopping because they don't necessarily know where or how to start. The following tips may be of help to those with the desire to quit once and for all.
#1 This tip is probably the most important of them all. You must have the true desire to quit smoking. If you are sincere about quitting, then you will succeed. If you are uncertain that you really want to stop, then you will ultimately fail. You must want to quit.
#2 Quit cold turkey; in the long run, it is the easiest and most effective option.
#3 Stop carrying your pack of cigarettes around with you. This only tempts you to want to smoke them. You can't smoke what you do not have access to.
#4 Take one day at a time. Don't worry about tomorrow or next week, just take it day by day.
#5 Make a list of reasons why you wanted to quit smoking in the first place. Every time you are tempted to give in, pull out your list and remind yourself why you are doing this.
#6 Do deep breathing exercises everyday to help you focus on maintaining a smoke free lifestyle.
#7 Tell the people in your life that you have quit smoking or are trying to quit smoking and ask them politely not to smoke around you.
Remember, you are like anyone else that has an addiction. You did not develop the bad habit of smoking overnight so you are not going to be cured overnight. Be patient with yourself and have faith in yourself. If you want it badly enough you will succeed.
