, finding a job in the offshore oil rigging industry is both easy and tough. Easy when you know when and how to tap the right resources. Tough when you don't. So in order to ensure success in your search you need to consider the following factors:

*If you have a relative or friend who's already employed with an offshore rig, contact him for some useful leads and even a recommendation which may help you land the job.

*Also make a list of oil service contractors from information available at local libraries which keep the Wilshire 5000 stock index. This contains details of 5000 of the largest corporations operating offshore platforms in the US.

*Shorten the list further to include names of only those companies whose stock prices are shooting as they normally tend to employ more people. Those with stock prices that are spiraling down are less safer bets as they are most probably downsizing and won't consider your application at all.

*Keep looking for information available on forums for petroleum workers which enable you to ask questions and give useful guidelines on current openings.

*Once your CV is prepared, send it out to recruitment companies who cater to oil service firms, outsourcing companies who locate workers and send them to contractors specializing in oil drilling or even mass resume submission services.

*You can alternately also post your CV on free online job portals like career Builder or Monster which usually have a larger reach.

*Also be on the lookout for job postings in newspapers floated by drilling contractors who work offshore. These are also found in state or local weeklies and dailies with smaller drillers posting their current offshore job openings. Do not, however, confine yourself to your state only and look for postings in other oil producing regions as well. Subscribing to all papers including out-of-state ones is not really required as the local library should be having them.

When applying for offshore oil rig jobs as a fresher, always remember that recruitment is often cyclical in this industry. While oil rigs in your state may be downsizing whereas other oil producing states may be recruiting in abundance. It, therefore, pays to be alert about what's going on and to ring the right doorbell. Also keep yourself physically fit in order to pass the medical fitness test should you be selected and be mentally prepared to move away from home at very short notice for a long time.
