7 Ways To Go Green and Save Power In Your Home

I remember learning aboutrenewable (and non-renewable) energy sources in school

. Well, I don't remember everything. I recently noticed that my power bills have been going up and that worries me.

Given the state of jobs and the economy as well as the rate of use of our natural resources, I have been wondering how to save energy. The energy crisis is made worse by thelack of good jobs. No one is safe now, so what can we do?

Tips To Help You Save Power in Your Home:

Air Conditioning: Does it really need to be that cold in your house? This is a major use of energy, and it islikelythat it is not needed. Keep your temperature setting consistent during each season; setting itat a reasonable temperature can help you to save a lot of energy and money during the year.

Washing Clothes: Make sure that you are only washing clothes when you need to. Many people wash less than a full load, which does not only waste electricity, but it also wastes water. You pay for both of these, so why pay more than you need to? Minimizing the number of loads you wash will save you money every time.

Storing Hot Food: I bet you did not know this one. When you put hot food into your refrigerator, it causes the refrigerator to run more, which uses more power and more of your money. Simply allow food to cool before you put it into your refrigerator.

Your Computer: This one is simple. When you are done online for the day, turn off your computer and all of the devices connected to it (e.g., printer, monitor, etc.). So often, people do not switch off all of these devices, which ends up wasting power and money. If you do this at work as well, you will help save even more power.

Turn off Your TV: This is similar to the computer one. When you are not using it, turn it off.

Your Light Bulbs: You should use compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs as much as you can. Some people don't like the odd tint to the light cast by these bulbs, but the dollar and energy savings they provide makes it worth your while toignorethe odd blue shade. They are slightly more expensive than the regular bulbs, but they last for years and require much less power.

Use Solar Panels: This is probably the most effective solution as sunlight is free, and because you can use as much power as they generate without fear of a higher power bill. Solar panels are really not very expensive, and they are not even hard to install. Plus, let's face it - you can't get the kids to stop playing video games, and there are still a few TV shows that are good. There is a ton of information out there about cheap solar power.

I hope these tips help you!
