72 Hour Kit List - Does The 72-Hour Kit Have Everything

?

A 72 hour kit list can be great...if you can gather all the pieces. That's probably one of the greatest hassles of putting together 72 hour kit: you have to gather everything.

In this article, not only will I tell you what you should have in your 72 hour kit, I'll also tell you about a complete 72-hour kit that you can use for your family's survival.

You probably know that the first 72 hours of an emergency are critical.

But, are you sure that your 72-hour emergency survival kit will have all the pieces you need? Is it compact and convenient, so that you can grab your kit and go during an emergency?

Not only should your kit be easy for your smallest child to grab and run with, it should have more than you think they'll need to survive. Yes, more than you think you'll need, because you never know what can happen during an emergency.

What Your 72 Hour Survival Kit Should Include

Some form of water storage capacity. Mylar water bags, or pouches, are good. Try to get one that's approved by the US Coast Guard. Try to also see if you can get one that has a long shelf life (3 years or more is good).

A first-aid kit. The basics: bandages, gauze.

Next on the list is an emergency blanket. It should be compact and somewhat warm. Of course, you might want to make sure that the blanket is big enough for your family, or that you have additional blankets.

Food bars. There are high-calorie food bars that can sustain you and your family. Though probably not the tastiest meal, when you need sustenance during an emergency, it'll come in handy.

A multi-tool or multi-purpose tool. A knife is one possibility. A 5-in-1 survival tool is another. Try to have a compass, a whistle, a waterproof matchbox, a mirror, and a fire start with you.

Not just any matches...you don't want normal matches that can get wet, do you? Have waterproof ones instead.

A glow stick or light stick is another piece.

The 72-Hour Kit Contains Everything In The List Above

Instead of having to collect all these pieces together to try to make your own kit, why not just know that you'll have all the pieces together in one package?

There's something called the 72 Hour Kit, which not only includes everything mentioned in this article, but also costs a reasonable $29.95.

72 Hour Kit: Extras to Consider

Yes, the 72 Hour Kit comes with some core components you need to safely evacuate, but, depending on your particular circumstances and your location, you may want to add these things to your 72 hour evacuation kit (also known as a bug-out bag ):

Mechanical pencils and paper in a plastic bag. You might have to write down important announcements, phone numbers, emergency codes, directions...you name it. You never know when you might have to write down some life-saving information, and pencil and paper can really be handy.

Maps, traveling information, and a compass.

Water purification tablets. Yes, the 72 Hour Kit does have some water storage capacity, but you can add some purification tablets.

Pet and elderly care needs. Don't forget grandma and your pets.

Non-electronic communication equipment. Ours is an electricity-dependent society. Be prepared for electricity to fail. A battery or hand-powered radio is a good idea.

And, since electricity might not be working...

Cash. Not cards. Cash.

2-way radios with extra batteries.

As a piece of advice: Be sure you have things charged and ready to go.

Enough medical supplies and vitamins.

Firearms to protect yourself and your family. I hesitated to put this one here, but if you heard about what happened during Katrina, then...you may wish to consider this.

72 Hour Kit: Conclusion

Of course, I can't predict the future, but if you consider everything I say in this article and prepare your own 3 day emergency evacuation kit, you'll have the highest chances of surviving an emergency evacuation.
