8 Simple Reasons Why Job Applicants and Graduates Fail Job Interviews
An interview may be defined as a formal conversation with someone, designed to extract information or assess their suitability for a position. Job and selection interviews are necessary in order to for the employer to get first hand information and knowledge about the employee as well as for the employee to know more about the employer and also get more information about the organization before joining them.
An applicant may fail an interview if he/she does not elicit enough confidence or provide relevant and accurate information to enable the interviewer or employer to give an employment. In some cases, an applicant's failure in an interview may also be caused by the in competencies on the part of the panel. Many times, job applicants and Graduates cry foul after failing an interview, that despite their careful preparation, they still end up not getting called by the company. These may have been caused by some mistakes on their part before, during and after the process.
Some simple reasons that may ensure an applicant to fail a job interview may include:
1. The condition under which the process is held may not be conducive for success. For example, it may not be private, and quite free from interruptions, or physically uncomfortable.
2. An applicant may fail an interview if he or she is not well prepared for the interview by not knowing some basic information about the organization he or she is seeking employment.
3. improper dressing and presentation on the part of the applicant may result in failure of the interview
4. Different opinions among the interview panel members may result in rejecting the right candidate for the job.
5. An applicant may fail a job interview if and when the interviewer keeps asking questions that may not be relevant to the interview process thereby making life difficult for the applicant.
6. The organization may not be able to conduct a proper interview, or recruit the right candidate if the interviewers are not sufficiently skilled or experienced in interview techniques.
7. An applicant may fail if the employer jump into wrong conclusions or make wrong assessment of the candidate
8. Failure to structure the process to achieve control of time and length of the interview may result in failure of the interview process. These are some of the basic reasons that may act against an applicant when applying for an interview.
