A / B – The Fight of English Language For Perfection
English is known as the funniest language but the most sophisticated too
. Knowing english and speaking the language is not the only way you master in the language. Writing a perfect English sentence without any grammatical and spelling errors is the most important factor. When we speak the errors are generally overlooked, but as we write it really counts. Writing in proper English without any grammatical errors might seem difficult, but it is not that you can't do it.
We tend to follow two kinds of English Languages : American and British. The major differences which exist between the two apart from being from different nations are pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary (lexis), spelling, punctuation, idioms, formatting of dates and numbers. The differences are equal in writing as well as speaking.
But here we are to discuss on the writing skills with reference to difference in the two English American English (AmE) and British English (BrE) Languages. To start with :
Punctuation:
Americans write Mr., Mrs., St., Dr., as for in British writing it is written as Mr, Mrs, St, Dr,
American use quotation marks for pairing with several ways under any circumstances e.g. Though I am a boy, my mother named me "Harriet" whereas, in British it goes like this Though I am a boy, my mother named me 'Harriet'. American uses quotation wherever they feel, but the British English varies according to the authoritative sources.
In American writing (.) - full stop comes before quotation mark, where as in Britishers the punctuation (.) is use after quotations.
Spellings: Few of the words differ in both English Languages.
Like the spelling : Aeroplane is written as Airplane in America
American spellings have 'ize' as the ending cases where as Britishers accepts both '-ize and -ise '
Similarly in British English the usage of 'yse' is taken over by 'yze' in America.
'Centre' is used by the Britishers and 'center' by the Ameicans.
In the word 'chilli/chili'- double 'l' is used by the UK and single 'l' by the Americans.
The color of the hair is referred with the word 'gray' by the Britishers and 'grey' by the Americans.
